What is Electro-Acupuncture

Electroacupuncture has similarities with acupuncture. Instead of the normal one needle style, this kind of acupuncture uses two.

During treatment, there is a mild electric stimulation that is delivered through the needles. This will provide more stimulation to the areas than traditionally applying pressure or twirling the needle. Most treatments last between 10 and 20 minutes.

The practitioners will adjust the frequency of the current. Low frequencies can have endorphins released from the nervous system which can help the body to feel better. Adjusting the frequency changes the amount of electrons that flow through the needle. The acupuncture needle is inserted in a pressure point and brings qi to the area.

Uses for Electro-Acupuncture

There are many uses and applications of electroacupuncture. Some uses are to treat pain, arthritis, chemotherapy-related nausea, stress, addiction and even tinnitus.

With electro-acupuncture, it circulates the bloodstream for longer and it provides a longer period of time for pain relief when compared to acupuncture. The mood-elevating benefits have been used to treat cancer patients who have depression. It can also help to alleviate fatigue in athletes.

Research has shown it can help with gut health, including constipation. It also helps to speed up recovery. When the electro-acupuncture is used, then it can release trigger points. The muscle will then twitch and relax. After one to three sessions, the effects can be felt.

Electro acupuncture has been used to treat plantar fasciitis. With a combination of needles used in the lower part of the leg and on the bottom of the foot surface electrodes. This technique is used with carpal tunnel syndrome as well.

For bone breaks and fractures, electroacupuncture can stimulate nerve regeneration, stimulate bone growth, capillary formation, and ligament health. It can help to heal the bone matrix and to help the bone heal faster.
