Acupuncture In Bangor

acupuncture

Welcome! Dr. Robin Gooden is an acupuncturist serving Bangor, Brewer, Hampden, Orono, and other surrounding areas in Maine. Acupuncture is a form of traditional Chinese medicine that has been practiced for over 3,000 years. Specific points on the body are chosen along pathways called "meridians". Very fine needles are inserted into these areas in order to allow the body's energy, or "qi," to be released and help move its natural flow by opening blocked areas.

Acupuncture can help prevent future illness, improve your immune system, remove energy imbalances, and regulate spiritual, emotional, mental, and physical harmony of the body. Call now for an appointment!

Acupressure

A technique that applies pressure to specific acupuncture points utilizing fingers, hand, elbow or various mechanical devices to provide relief of symptoms, balancing and motivating the flow of Qi throughout the body.

Auricular Therapy

Auricular therapy is a technique that utilizes the rich supply of blood and nerves in the ear to diagnose and treat disease, by stimulating meridian points in the ear. Auricular therapy is effective in the treatment of a wide range of common diseases. It has especially been successful in the treatment of chronic disease and as an analgesic during surgery or childbirth.

Cupping

A method of acupuncture treatment that applies suction and creates a vacuum, by applying glass, ceramic, metal, brass or bamboo cups, stimulating the flow of blood. Cupping can be applied in combination with herbal medicine or traditional needling.

This treatment is commonly used in the relief of the following symptoms:

Electro-Acupuncture

A low-frequency electrical impulse is applied to the needles once they are inserted in the acupuncture points and the Qi is obtained. This method regulates the flow of Qi, producing a more continuous and even stimulation. It is extensively used during surgery and further enhances both the duration and intensity of acupuncture's analgesic effects.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha is an ancient healing technique used to relieve muscle tension, tightness, constriction – making it an effective treatment for both acute and chronic pain. A specialized tool and a lubricating medium, such as massage oil, are used to gently rub the skin in the problem area.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion involves applying heat to an acupuncture point. This technique involves the burning of mugwort, a small, spongy herb, and is used to stimulate stagnant or cold areas of the body. The herb is burned slowly in various forms (moxa sticks, cones, or warming cylinders) and held on or near the acupuncture point to warm the channels in order to move the Blood and Qi.

Tui Na

Oriental massage therapy which combines the management of body movements through soft tissue manipulation (muscles and tendons) to impact the flow of Qi, and re-align musculoskeletal with ligament interaction. It is used to relieve muscle pain, tension, inflammation and to heal injuries.

Back In Balance Wellness Center has always surpassed my expectations. I've been going there since before I had my children. Then a little after I had my first child I was having such terrible hip pain that I was having a hard time walking. Thankfully Dr. Robin was able to take care of me and the pain went away. Now, I have three kids who are five and under and they love going to their visits with Dr. Robin and he does a great job. Overall the Staff is personal, informative, and friendly. The Doctors are knowledgeable, caring, and do a thorough job. And the facility has so much to offer such as chiropractic, massage, acupuncture, and much more! I would recommend them to anyone who wants a great experience!
